Netkups, or not? That is the question.

I hate to throw another "maintenance" post onto the fire, but it appears that certain concerns with my new file-hoster of choice, Netkups have arisen.  *sigh*  First the good news.  The files posted for my last two entries, the Troggs tribute and the subject of my first installment of Mystery Mondays, received a fairly whopping 200 successful downloads each.  The bad?  I received a spate of comments for both entries informing me of your inability to download them, particularly the Troggs tribute.

I recently signed up as a paid "premium" user with Netkups, and have thus far renewed approximately 200 of the dead Rapidshare links.  To troubleshoot this issue, I logged out of my premium account, selected the Troggs link via my website as an anonymous user, and after punching in the token Captcha passwords and closing the token pop-up ad I was able to download the file without incident.  In short, the Netkup links work for me, on multiple computers.  I realize I have other file-sharing options - Adrive, Opendrive, etc, but as with Netk, I need a large enough "cloud" to accommodate my fairly large trove of files, and of course, enough public traffic space for everyone to download what they want, when they want.  Unlimited usage of such services come at a price, and I can't afford more than one at a time, nor do I have time to manage multiple file-sharing platforms.

Since I already have an investment with Netkups, I'm going to ask you to try accessing the links again (btw, most of the 2012 posts have been revived).  If you're unsuccessful, please leave me the exact error message you are receiving in the comments so I can then relay them to Netk's tech support.  In short, I can't keep rearranging deckchairs on the good ship Wilfully Obscure, and I need to settle on something.  I understand your frustration.  Aggravation on your end equals even more aggravation on mine.  Thanks for your patience.

The Troggs tribute is the first I've had any trouble with. I simply get a white page that says "Error" in bold at the top and "Internal error." below that and a "Click here to go back" link.

I get the same message as above:

I tried in different browsers and with different settings in my browsers. Can't get it. Though I did get one of the links when you first switched. I'll do whatever I have to, to d/l what you're putting up. I just can't get these...

I guess they've got the error message because the links would be available only for 24 hrs. Others I've tried worked.

I use nks as an altern host and work fine. Also there is the option of zippyshare (also tried and worked fine) for files not larger than 200mb otherwise you may have to split in parts.

Rather than put you through more difficulty, I would support sticking with what you are doing -- netkups.

I am someone who has had trouble twice, but in both cases trying a few time or checking back and trying at a later time have let me download. It's not that big a deal to have to do that in order to hear the great music you offer. And usually no problem at all.

I haven't tried to download this particular file, but as I've never had any trouble downloading from Netkups, it sounds to me like it's an error specific to this file, rather than a systemic problem. It may also be a browser issue - maybe Netkups supports only certain browsers (I use Google Chrome).

I did make another attempt at downloading this compilation today and while unlucky at obtaining the file as I got the error page it didn't spare netkups the chance to load a pop-up with a an apparently live connection with a scantly clad nubilesque girl who wanted to chat with me....lucky me. I never had any trouble with netkups downloads before monday. I just want to ask if that the people unable to dl are using firefox or not.

Thanks for sharing your experiences Ace, MKV, and the rest of ya'll. To address the most immediate concern, I've posted an alternate Zippyshare link to the Troggs tribute.

With such generic error notifications I only have so much work with, but I'll bet if any given link on Netk is "hammered" that could be overwhelming their servers. I suppose the only solution to that would be to wait a few hours and try again later.

If you find a download link via W/O that appears to be especially troublesome, leave a comment and I'll do my best to provide an alternate link. In the meantime, I can contact Netkups to see if they have a workaround. From my own experience I have a difficult time uploading anything to their servers between 8 pm to 9 pm or so EST. Perhaps they're doing maintenance at this time, and if that's the case, downloads would be affected as well. Thanks again for your responses.

I live in Texas, I'm on Firefox and I've never been able to download any of your links via the browser. Never. I've tried Firefox with adblock plus and I've also tried the latest version of IE without any popup blockers. I make it through the captcha, but I ALWAYS get the message "Error: Internal error."

I should mention also that on IE just getting to the download link caused two popups -- more annoying than normal.

This hosting service has an option to create a free login. I wonder if logging in might eliminate the popups and/or the the error.

In any event, I appreciate the effort, but some of the other services (like Depositfiles, sendspace, rapidgator) are much more reliable.

By the way, I love your site -- when I can download the files.

(Sorry, I just wanted to say that I have NEVER been able to download from Netkups, although if I recall Rapidshare was giving me problems as well (although that has been flaky over the last few months).

Damn Robert, sounds like you're in a world of hurt. Forgot to mention in my update that I am able to acquire and upload files to Netkups with Firefox and IE. Never tried Chrome.

Try downloading the Troggs tribute from the Zippyshare link I put up today. Sorry for the hassle!

For those having problems I have no idea if this would work for you, but I was having trouble today with the Thumbs LP (it would take forever then put up a page saying something like Bad Gateway), so when I came back I wiped out my "cookies" (on Firefox by "Clear Recent History) and then I had no problem.

Probably a pure coincidence, but I offer it up as my contribution (so far only one!) to the blog.

I have been having no luck with Netkups for these past four days using Firefox or Chrome.

Not your links, nor PPO, PPC, Ratb0y, SOTD... not a single one. I've even tried from multiple places just to make sure it wasn't an IP issue.

Are they having outages? Is it possible you could use Zippyshare links?

Y'know, I appreciate your shares, and I also appreciate that netkups.com hasn't been mass-deleting your stuff (unlike other file hosts we could name). But every single time I want to download from that site it's a fucking struggle. 504 gateway errors all over the place. To me, that's generally a sign of a janky, fly-by-night host.

depositfiles, maybe?

It's been deleted due to inactivity; would you mind reviving it or just sending me the rar?
