Pounding Birds - A Perfect Language ep (1991, Heyday)

Pounding Birds are something of a cold case, presumably hailing from San Francisco given their inclusion on this regional compilation.  It's your typical collegiate jangle and strum proposition with discernibly more of the latter.  This quartet may have been gently nudged into being by the likes of R.E.M. and Miracle Legion, albeit the band's inspirational antecedents aren't always evident.  I wouldn't go into A Perfect Language expecting anything especially high-strung, but "Another Coat of Paint" and "Drinking Poison" speak to the Birds heightened melodic acumen.

  1. Found this blog on my semi annual googling to see if we are getting famous after 30+ years of obscurity! Happy to see some interest! Pat Thomas (heyday founder) was our first drummer and we were on heyday and pals with all the heyday bands though always second string. We opened for mark etizel many times, and counting crows. Your description of us is fair. We sound morose and adolescent to me now, but hey I was 27. We did try hard and had good players and got along well for almost an eight year run before families and day jobs took over. We got better after the first ep, adding ace violinist Dan Hoffman and me writing more cheerful songs. We didn’t manage another commercial release, but there was plenty of recording, some of which is here https://soundcouch.soundcloud.com/#/profile/147138661

Would be happy to say more if there’s interest.
