What it is.

If it seems I've been posting on an already sporadic basis it's about to get worse.  Folks, both of my computers aren't functioning properly, and it appears my main system will need to be replaced altogether.  The site isn't going anywhere, but I'm going to be posting on a very infrequent basis for the remainder of this week and next.  In short, if you tend to make Wilfully Obscure a daily destination feel free to hold off for a week or so.  Otherwise, a lot of the archived links are active again.  Apologies for all the recent re-up requests that I haven't been able to attend to, and ditto for all those comments and emails I've neglected. Keep it lit.

Fyi, last month I replaced my ancient desktop (16 years old), tho in my case it was mostly because I wanted Windows 7. Anyway, my point is (a) no one wants desktops any longer, so (b) was able to buy a powerful refurbished Dell PC (recent Intel CPU, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB disk) with a 1 year warranty for $150, with Windows 7 Professional (~cost of MS Windows alone).

Sometimes you can really luck out. Bought a comparable system for $200, and it lasted me four years.

Hope you're able to get the PC woes sorted man. I'm sorry to pile on to your re-up request workload, but I did several searches trying to find this elsewhere and could not so I'm going to ask if you could please reup the Rollerskate Skinny 1994 show when you get a chance :) The only other live set I could find online is the one on youtube from 1996 that stutters and is more or less unlistenable. I adore everything RS has done and would love to hear this set (esp soundboard)! Thanks for all you do :)

Sure, once everything is back to normal I'll make sure to fix the RS link. Thanks.

I feel your pain, my friend. I've been shoveling coal into the back of my 2010 Macbook Pro for the last year just barely keeping it going. And I had planned on getting a new machine... making the leap back to the Windows world, in fact. So I contracted with a friend last year to build me a new bleeding edge PC from the ground up But two weeks into working on it, he had the mother of all mental and emotional collapses, and here I am 14 months later, trying to coax him out of his chair and back to the work bench where my mostly-built PC sits under a tarp. Ugh. There is no God.

I hope you get everything working again. A non-functioning computer is pretty much top of the list of First World Problems these days.

In the meantime, go outside and get some fresh air. We the greedy music-demanding masses can wait.

Hey Don. "I've been shoveling coal into the back of my Macbook." Fantastic analogy for not only my PC but my dinky little Toyota Echo. Love that. Glad to hear someone who feels my pain. Get some fresh air indeed. Enjoy the weekend, and thanks for commenting.
